Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with Mr. Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on the margins of the 65th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today, 21 September 2010, with H.E. Mr. Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The Secretary-General congratulated UK for its consistent support and leadership for the Millennium Development Goals. He noted with appreciation the commitment of theUK to reach the 0.7 per cent of GNI target for overseas development assistance despite budget constraints. The Secretary-General also welcomed UK's strong commitment in favour of maternal and child health.

He thanked the UK for its generous support to Pakistan.

The Secretary-General and the Deputy Prime Minister further discussed Afghanistan, Sudan and the Middle East Peace Process.
