The Secretary-General met with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Mr. Mourad Medelci. They discussed Algeria's progress on the MDGs, its efforts in the fight against terrorism, and the Western Sahara negotiations.

The SG congratulated Algeria on its accomplishments to date with respect to the MDGs and called for accelerated progress in the years ahead.

He expressed concern over the impasse in the Western Sahara negotiation process and encouraged Algeria to continue its support to the parties on confidence-building measures.
