The Secretary-General is travelling to Washington, D.C. to participate in a series of events taking place in line with the spring meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). On Thursday, 10 April, the Secretary-General and his Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown, will speak at the 2015 Countdown Summit for Global Education. That event will take place at New York University’s Global Academic Center, which is in Washington. That afternoon, the Secretary-General will join World Bank President Jim Yong Kim in events on anti-poverty measures and education. The first of those events is called “End Poverty Call to Action,” and the second one, which again includes Gordon Brown, is called “Learning for All”. The Secretary-General will also visit the Inter-American Development Bank later in the day and meet with its President, Luis Alberto Moreno. On Friday, 11 April, the Secretary-General will visit the Pentagon, where he will meet with US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey. In the afternoon, the Secretary-General and President Kim will participate in a number of events, including on moving towards universal health coverage by 2030, on climate change, on providing sanitation and water for all, and on inequality and shared prosperity. They also expect to meet with the heads of the multilateral development banks. The Secretary-General will return to New York later that day. |
