The Deputy Secretary-General will be traveling to the Kingdom of Lesotho, to attend the Official commemoration of the Bicentenary of the Founding of the Basotho Nation, on behalf of the Secretary-General.
Whilst in Lesotho, the Deputy Secretary-General will engage with senior government officials, parliamentarians and traditional leaders, local communities, the United Nations entities and other stakeholders to discuss key national efforts to reform state institutions and to accelerate implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
From Lesotho, the Deputy Secretary-General will continue on to the Republic of South Africa to engage with Senior Government Officials on the upcoming G20 Presidency.
The Deputy Secretary-General will then travel onto the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the Preparatory Meeting for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Pre-COP29) and meet with member state delegations. While in Baku, the Deputy Secretary-General will also meet with Senior Government Officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan to discuss the negotiations on COP29.
The Deputy Secretary-General will return to New York on 11 October 2024.
