Summit of the Future Side Event: Activating Young Scientists for Trust in Science
Event Date
20 Sep 2024
Time
From 3:00pm to 4:15pm (America/New York)

There is wide agreement across the multilateral system that trust in science is essential for peace, development and human rights. It is a thread that runs through the UN75 Declaration, Our Common Agenda, and the Pact for the Future.

Taking place during Summit of the Future Action Day 1, this side event brings together dynamic young scientists, distinguished later-career scientists, and global leaders to advance trust in science at the multilateral level. In a panel discussion with audience interaction, participants explore how young people can be mobilized to support trust in science at different scales (local, national, multilateral) to address the challenges of the 21st century.

Moderator: Latif Nasser, co-host of Radiolab

Panelists: Andrea Hinwood, Chief Scientist of UN Environment Programme; Professor Mohammad Hosseini, Northwestern University and Global Young Academy; Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of UN University; Professor Clara Sousa Silva, Bard College
