On 8 December 2025, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), serving as the UNAI Global Hub Chair for Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), launched EcoSynergy, a campus-wide initiative aimed at phasing out single-use plastics and promoting responsible consumption.

Organized by the NUST Office of Sustainability, the initiative marked a significant step toward embedding sustainability into everyday campus life. The event was formally launched by Pro-Rector (RIC) Dr. Rizwan Riaz and saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff across the university.

A highlight of the launch was the SDG 12 Awareness Hike along the NUST trail. Participants engaged with thematic awareness stations that showcased the environmental impacts of plastic pollution and demonstrated practical, sustainable alternatives through creative and interactive displays.

To further incentivize engagement, participants took part in activity-based learning, with winners receiving eco-friendly prizes. As part of EcoSynergy, the Office of Sustainability also announced a transition from single-use plastic bottles to reusable glass bottles across campus, reinforcing NUST’s commitment to waste reduction and mindful consumption.

EcoSynergy reflects NUST’s leadership under UNAI in advancing SDG 12 and sets the foundation for future collaborative sustainability initiatives at both national and global levels.
