Laura Piazza serves as an Adviser for Sustainable Development in the Office of the President of the 75th session of the General Assembly, focusing on macroeconomic issues including financing for development and challenges of middle income countries. She also supports the Human Rights and Humanitarian Team in cross-cutting topics, including migration.
Before joining the Office of the President of the General Assembly, Laura worked at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations, covering issues related to the environment, climate change, water, food security and migration. Furthermore, she was a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Côte d’Ivoire and the Central African Republic and was deployed as a security analyst for the Swiss Military in NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) Peacekeeping Mission. Previously, she covered women’s rights topics at the Women’s Initiative for Gender Justice in The Hague, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Social Science Section of UNESCO’s office in Beijing.
Laura holds a Master of Arts in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Political Science and Sinology) from the University of Zurich.
A native German speaker, she is fluent in English, French and Italian, and has good knowledge of Mandarin and Finnish.
