The general debate of the seventy-ninth session of the General Assembly (High-Level Week) will take
place from 24 to 28 and 30 September 2024.

In line with the annex to resolution 51/241, the list of speakers is customarily prepared based on expressions of preference, adjusted for protocol and takes existing traditions into account in order to best accommodate the needs of Member States.

This year, for a speaking slot on the first day of the general debate, 134 Member States will be represented by 87 Heads of State, 2 Vice Presidents, 1 Crown Prince, 28 Heads of Government, 3 Deputy Prime Ministers and 13 Ministers.

Therefore, the principle of “first-come, first-served” in terms of time of inscription was taken into account.

President of the General Assembly at its 79th Session

The election of the President of the General Assembly for the seventy-ninth session was held on 6 June 2024 at 3.p.m. in the General Assembly Hall, in line with Rule 30 of the Rules of Procedure.

In accordance with the established regional rotation, the President of the seventy-ninth session of the General Assembly was elected from the Group of African States.

H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang of Cameroon from Cameroon is the President of the General Assembly at its 79th Session.
