Hassan Adam is the Special Assistant to the President of the General Assembly.

A career diplomat with more than 20 years of experience, Adam, in his capacity as Minister Counsellor, served at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN from February 2021 to August 2023. During the 76th and 77th sessions of the UN General Assembly, he covered the First, Third, and Fifth committees. He also played a pivotal role in the Maldives’ successful election to the Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term as Elections Officer.

He began his career as a Foreign Service Officer in 2001 and has since held various positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives. This includes several portfolios within the Multilateral, Bilateral, Protocol, and Administrative Departments. In addition to his first diplomatic posting at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN in 2002, he has served at the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka, the High Commission of Maldives in Bangladesh, the Embassy of Maldives in Beijing to assist in the evacuation of Maldivians during the Covid-19 pandemic and worked in Bangkok to establish the Embassy of Maldives in Thailand.

He holds a Master of Social Science in Strategy and Diplomacy from the National University of Malaysia.
