Faisal Mohammed Ibrahim

Faisal Mohammed Ibrahim is the Head of Administration and Special Adviser to the Chef de Cabinet in the Office of the President of the 75th session of the General Assembly. Previously, he served as the Special Adviser to the Chef de Cabinet in the Office of the President of the 74th session of the General Assembly.

Faisal is a Counsellor in the Nigerian Foreign Service. Prior to his deployment to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, he served in the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations from 2017 to 2019, covering Elections, the First Committee and the Security Council. He was also the Coordinator of the African Group on matters relating to Disarmament and International Security. In addition, he coordinated the candidatures of the Economic Community of West African States to UN bodies in New York. 

During his tour at the Mission of Nigeria in New York, Faisal was a member of the group of government experts tasked with considering and recommending substantial elements of an internationally legal binding instrument on the prevention of an arms race in outer space, including the prevention of placement of weapons in outer space. He was engaged in the Track 1.5 Initiative of the Nuclear Transparency Initiative, focused on strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. 

Prior to this, Faisal was seconded to the Presidency (the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation), in the Office of the Permanent Secretary on Political & Economic Affairs Office (PEAO) and the Office of the Chairman of the National Authority of Chemical & Biological Weapons Convention (NACBWC) from 2015 to 2017. 

Having joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2010, he served in the International Organisations Department, the Trade and Investment Division and the North and Horn of Africa Division. Faisal has also been posted to the Nigerian High Commission in London, United Kingdom. 

Prior to that he had a brief stint in the Banking Sector from 2009 to 2010. Faisal served in the Nigerian Army (Signal) from 2002 to 2009. 

Faisal has participated in a number of training programmes, including  a programme for West African diplomats on peace and stability in West Africa and the Sahel, at Clingendael-the Netherlands Institute for International Relations, and a programme on communication and diplomacy at  L’Ecole National D’Administration (L’ENA), Paris, France.                                                          

He holds a BSc in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
