Eva Schafer is Team Leader of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Team in the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
She previously served as Deputy Team Leader and Adviser in the Office of the President of the General Assembly during the 72nd, 73rd and 77th sessions. During this period, she led the establishment of the President’s Advisory Board on Gender Equality and managed the launch of the UNGA Platform of Women Leaders. She was focal point for gender equality, migration, global health issues and civil society engagement.
Prior to joining the Office, she served at the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the United Nations as a delegate to the Third (Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs) and Fifth (Budget) Committee of the General Assembly. Among her diplomatic assignments, she served as Vice-Chair of the Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and co-led negotiations on behalf of EU Member States in the Fifth Committee during Hungary’s EU Presidency. During this period, she also served in the team of the Co-Chair of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals with a responsibility to support the Co-Chair’s work on developing the SDGs on Education, Health, Gender Equality and Inequalities.
A career diplomat, Eva joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary in 2009.
She graduated with a Master’s degree in International Relations from Corvinus University of Budapest and completed an Erasmus Fellowship at Örebro University in Sweden.
