Devita Abraham is Special Adviser to the President of the General Assembly.

As a career diplomat, Devita has been assigned to the Permanent Mission of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations since 2018. She was the lead for the campaign to elect H.E. Dennis Francis as President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the focal point during his transition period.

During her time at the Permanent Mission, she covered the Third, Fourth and Sixth Committees as well as Elections and specific Plenary agenda items. Devita was also the lead negotiator and coordinator for Trinidad and Tobago on Cybersecurity and for the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on the Use of ICTs for Criminal Purposes. She also facilitated, on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago, the biennial resolution in the First Committee on Women, disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control in 2020 and 2022.

Devita was the lead coordinator and drafter for the Resolution proclaiming 11 August as World Steelpan Day, which was adopted by the General Assembly in August 2023.

As Elections Officer, Devita played an essential role in the successful election of Trinidad and Tobago for its candidacies to CEDAW (2018 and 2022), Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, Commission on Narcotic Drugs, Judge at the International Criminal Court, and Half-time Judge at the United Nations Dispute Tribunal.

Devita has served as the Vice-Chair on the Bureaus of the Third Committee for the 76th session and on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the 64th session, representing the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC).

Since 2021, Devita has also served as the Co-coordinator for CARICOM for the Third Committee and Main Coordinator for CARICOM for the Fourth Committee.

Before joining the Foreign Service, Devita was the Statistician at the Ministry of Trade and Industry. She holds a master’s degree in urban and Regional Planning and a bachelor’s degree in economics and public Sector Management (double major). Throughout her career, she has successfully undertaken diplomatic training in supervisory skills, protocol and diplomatic law, economic diplomacy, as well as cybersecurity at various institutions including UNITAR, the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean, and the Foreign Service Institute in India.
