UN General Assembly President, Mr. Dennis Francis, to undertake official visit to Riga, the Republic of Latvia
New York, 3 July 2024 – Following his historic official visit to Ukraine, the President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), His Excellency, Mr. Dennis Francis, will continue his official tour to Riga, Republic of Latvia, from 4 to 6 July.
Throughout the region, the PGA will discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine and underscore the importance of multilateral engagement in the face of ongoing regional conflict and instability. The PGA will also stress the need for a reinvigorated United Nations that is capable of addressing todays many complex and interlocking challenges, from peace and security to climate change to good governance.
While in Riga, the PGA will hold separate bilateral meetings with H.E. Ms. Evika Siliņa, Prime Minister of Republic of Latvia; H.E. Ms. Baiba Brae, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and H.E. Mr. Kaspars Melnis, Minister of Energy and Climate.
The PGA will also hold a joint press conference, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Baiba Brae.
Additionally, the PGA will meet with H.E. Mr. Andrejs Pildegovi賬 Ambassador at Large for Global and Multilateral Affairs Special Envoy for Latvias UNSC Candidacy for the 2026-2027 term. He will also participate in a panel discussion on the theme of Nothing about us without us. The role of small countries in the UN” as part of the LAMPA conversation festival.
The PGAs delegation includes his Chef de Cabinet, the Deputy Team Leader on Sustainable Development and Financing for Development, and a Communications Adviser.
Travel costs for the visit are jointly covered by the OPGAs Trust Fund and the Government of the Republic of Latvia.
