The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, met on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, with H.E. Mr. Febrian A. Ruddyard, President of the Trade and Development Board of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The President of the General Assembly and the President of the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD exchanged views on UNCTAD’s role in shaping international trade policy to support sustainable development, including in times of crisis such as their assistance programme for Palestine.

The President of the General Assembly expressed appreciation for UNCTAD’s support towards the first ever UN General Assembly Sustainability Week, held from 15 to 19 April 2024, as well as the informal interactive dialogue for commodity markets to be held on Friday, 26 April 2024.

President of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board, inter alia, briefed the President of the General Assembly on the preparations for UNCTAD 60th Anniversary event, which will be held on 12 to 14 June 2024 in Geneva.

Both President Dennis Francis and President Febrian Ruddyard underscored the importance of the synergy between New York and Geneva, especially towards the Summit of the Future.
