on the Holiday of Passover

Today begins the holy Passover observance – when the Jewish people around the world gather in celebration of freedom and resilience.
Passover is a season of rebirth and renewal, the triumph of hope and faith.
It is also a time of reflection and remembrance.
The call of Passover is one of unyielding resolve to look beyond the current moment and work decisively, together, for a more peaceful tomorrow.
I join that call by asking the Jewish people and indeed all People, united as we are in a common bond of humanity, to rededicate ourselves, in earnest, to the cause and mission of peace; for there is no greater promise than the promise of existence and therefore, of life.
May we all work purposefully to create and to share the promise of peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all, encapsulated in the 2030 Agenda.
So let us join hands and hearts in promoting a better life – in larger freedom, for all peoples – as the UN Charter calls upon us to do.
I extend my best wishes to you all for a successful observance of Passover.
