Closing Remarks by the President of the General Assembly,
Mr. Dennis Francis,
at the Informal dialogue on Building Resilience and Promoting Sustainable Development Through Infrastructure Connectivity
18 April 2024
[As Delivered]

Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I thank you all for your active participation and contribution to what has been a successful dialogue on ‘Building Resilience and Promoting Sustainable Development Through Infrastructure Connectivity.’

We heard the resounding acknowledgment of the critical necessity of safe, durable, and high-quality infrastructure – as a cornerstone for achieving the SDGs.

Today’s exchange of insightful perspectives on how to attain our shared objective of establishing resilient and sustainble infrastructure – encompassing transport, energy, and digital sectors – was likewise, profoundly encouraging.

It is imperative to invest in resilient infrastructure in promoting economic prosperity, enhancing social well-being, and building environmental sustainbility.

To that end, we heard from several speakers about the global need to increase investments in infrastructure connectivity to safeguard against  and to mitigate the impacts of climate change, disasters, and other shocks.
Through global and national efforts, which include cross-sectoral collaboration between the public and private sectors and the leveraging of new technologies, we can achieve our infrastructure connectivity goals.

Let us build on the momentum we have generated today, and work even harder towards our common goal of investing in infrastructure that is resilient and sustainable for the benefit of everyone, everywhere – and by doing so, accelerate our efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

I thank you.
