Readout of the meeting of the President of the General Assembly with Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)

Today the President of the General Assembly met with Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), ahead of the General Assembly meeting to hear a briefing on UNRWA.

The President of the General Assembly and the Commissioner-General discussed the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the efforts of UNRWA to provide life-saving assistance to Palestine refugees. They also discussed the challenges facing UNRWA, both financially and politically. The President of the General Assembly stressed his appreciation for the work of the UN agency throughout the years and expressed support for sustainable and predictable funding for UNRWA.
