This morning, the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, landed in Dubai, to undertake an official visit to the United Arab Emirates from 30 November to 3 December.

President Francis is attending the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

He will use his remarks to call for unity and solidarity in the face of the climate crisis; champion the needs of Small Island Developing States and other vulnerable regions and groups; and voice support for global efforts to triple renewable energy capacity and limit temperature rise to no more than 1.5 degrees.

Additionally, while at COP28, President Francis will co-host four high-level panels with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration, Ms. Amy Pope. These events, organized by the Global Centre for Climate Mobility, will focus on climate mobility and adaptation; climate action for sustaining peace; efforts to protect statehood, sovereignty, and heritage; and people-positive climate adaptation.

The PGA will return to New York on Sunday and to his office on Monday.

He is accompanied by his Sustainable Development Adviser and a Communications Adviser. All travel costs are covered by the regular budget.
