Readout of the Meeting Between the President of General Assembly and the President of the Security Council for October 2023

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, had a coordination meeting with H.E. Mr. Sérgio França Danese, Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations and the President of the Security Council for the month of October 2023.

Ambassador Danese briefed the President on the programme of work of the Security Council during Brazil’s Presidency, highlighting the signature event focusing on contributions of regional mechanisms to international peace and security, and to be chaired by Brazil’s Foreign Minister.

Ambassador Danese noted that Foreign Minister Vieira would additionally chair the Council meetings on the Women, Peace and Security, The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question, and on Haiti.

Both sides expressed concern about the serious security situation in Haiti and agreed that a minimum level of security must be restored for the country to move forward.

The meeting took place at the President’s Office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on 29 September 2023.
