On 23 September 2016, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Peter Thomson met with the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák.

Minister Lajčák expressed full support to the priorities set by the President for the 71st Session of the General Assembly and concurred that  no time can be wasted in moving forward with implementation of SDGs.

The process of selection and appointment of the next Secretary-General was also discussed, with the need to maintain its credibility emphasized.

President Thomson and Minister Lajčák also agreed on the very positive impact that continuity and smooth transition between consecutive Offices of the President of the General Assembly have on the work of the General Assembly.
