Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly
Meeting with H.E. Mr. Li Baodong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China
The President of the General Assembly (PGA), H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa met with H.E. Mr. Mr. Li Baodong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The PGA and the Vice Foreign Minister discussed the priorities of the 69th session. President Kutesa and Vice Minister Li Baodong underscored the need to formulate a transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda, accompanied by adequate means for its implementation. In this regard, they concurred on the need for a high-level participation at the upcoming Third Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) to be held from 13 to 16 July in Addis Ababa. The PGA and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of ensuring a successful outcome at the FfD Conference, with concrete deliverables to support the implementation of the new agenda, underlining poverty eradication and achievement of sustainable development as its overarching objectives.
They also exchanged views on the revitalization of the United Nations General Assembly and reform of the Security Council, as well as important events that would commemorate this year, the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

President Kutesa also met with H.E. Mr. Juan Manuel Gómez-Robledo Verduzco, Deputy Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of Mexico. They exchanged views on the ongoing efforts concerning the reform of the United Nations Security Council. They discussed the preparation of the High Level General Assembly Thematic Debate in support of the process towards the 2016 Special Session of the General Assembly on the World Drug Problem, scheduled to take place on 7 May 2015.
The PGA and the Deputy Minister discussed the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice that the PGA attended in mid-April in Doha. President Kutesa and Deputy Minister Gómez-Robledo concurred on the need to exert all efforts to create peaceful, just and prosperous societies by strengthening crime prevention and criminal justice systems, norms and standards, while combating the threats that undermine them, in particular transnational organized crime, illicit trafficking and corruption.

Earlier during the day, President Kutesa met with H.E. Ms. Taous Ferroukhi, President of the Ninth Review Conference of the States parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The Conference started today in New York and will be held until 22 May 2015. The President of the General Assembly reiterated his support for the NPT and its three pillars, namely, non-proliferation, the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and disarmament.
Later on, the PGA also received separately three new Permanent Representatives to the United Nations. He received H.E. Dr. Walton Webson, new Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations; H.E. Mr. Gholamali Khoshroo, new Permanent Representative of Iran, and H.E, Mr. Ramlam Bin Ibrahim, new Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations.
