Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly

H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the General Assembly (PGA), met with H.E. Li Baodong Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China. The PGA and the Vice Foreign Minister discussed the priorities of the 69th session, and the upcoming high-level events at the General Assembly. Recalling PGA’s participation last week at the Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa, President Kutesa and Vice Minister Li Baodong underscored the need to formulate a transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda, accompanied by adequate means for its implementation. They also exchanged views on climate change, women empowerment, peaceful resolution of conflicts and peacebuilding, cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations, revitalization of the General Assembly and the reform of the Security Council.

After meeting the Permanent Representatives of Portugal H.E Alvaro Mendonça and of Grenada H.E Denis G. Antoine, to whom he expressed his gratitude for having served as acting Presidents of the General Assembly during the PGA’s absence, President Kutesa met with H.E. Dr. Danilo Turk, Former President of Slovenia. They exchanged views on a wide range of global issues related to the priorities of General Assembly and President Kutesa welcomed his participation in the up-coming High Level Thematic Debate on Integrating Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
