Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly

The President of the General Assembly (PGA), H.E. Mr. Sam Kutesa, met with H.E. Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations.

In the aftermath of the attacks in Paris, the President of the General Assembly conveyed his deepest sympathy and condolences to the affected families, the Government and people of France and expressed the solidarity of the United Nations General Assembly.

He reiterated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed. The President underscored the importance of redoubling efforts to combat extremism and the scourge of terrorism. He also stressed the need to promote peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding amongst peoples to avoid extremism and polarization.

The President and Ambassador Delattre further exchanged views on the priorities of the 69th session of the General Assembly and the elaboration of the post-2015 development agenda, as well as the upcoming 21st Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21), which will be held in Paris, France.
