Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly

President Kutesa met with H.E. Mr. Tamar Beruchashvili, Foreign Minister of Georgia. The President and the Minister discussed priorities of the 69th session such as the ongoing negotiations on the formulation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the need to secure means for its implementation, as well as the strengthening of cooperation between the United Nations and Regional and Sub-Regional organizations, mainly in conflict and post-conflict areas.

President Kutesa and Minister Beruchashvili also exchanged views on international and regional situations. In this regard, they concurred on the need to reinforce multilateral diplomacy in the field of peace and security. Highlighting the plight of migrants worldwide, they stressed the need to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees globally.

President Kutesa met with H.E. Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria. President Kutesa and Minister Lamamra discussed important issues on the agenda of the 69th session such as the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the Third Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) to be held from 13 to 16 July in Addis Ababa. They also addressed the importance of building a strong momentum leading to the Climate Change Paris summit in December.

The President and the Minister also exchanged views on international peace and security situations, including ongoing regional situations on the African continent. President Kutesa reiterated the support of the General Assembly to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and stressed the importance of reconciliation for sustainable peace and development.

President Kutesa met with H.E. Ms. Sujata Mehta, Vice Minister for Multilateral and Economic Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs of India.

The PGA and the Vice Minister discussed the priorities of the 69th session of the General Assembly, such as the Post-2015 Development Agenda and its implementation, the upcoming Third Conference on Financing for Development (FfD), Climate Change, the revitalization of the General Assembly, UN reforms and the reform of the Security Council.

On the same day, the PGA also received separately two new Permanent Representatives to the United Nations, namely, H.E. Ms. Lourdes Ortiz Yparraguirre, Permanent Representative of the Philippines; and H.E. Mr. Amrith Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka.
