H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the General Assembly (PGA), met with H.E. Mr. Baudelaire Ndong Ella, President of the United Nations Human Rights Council. President Ndong Ella briefed the President on the activities of the Human Rights Council and later on presented the Report of the Council to the General Assembly and the Third Committee. President Kutesa commended the President of the Human Rights Council for his leadership and the Council’s active and sustained response to human rights situation around the globe. President Kutesa and President Ndong Ella further exchanged views on the contribution of human rights to the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

The President of the General Assembly also held a bilateral meeting with Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda. The President briefed her on the priorities of the 69th session, including the Post-2015 Development Agenda and its implementation, climate change, gender equality and women empowerment, cooperation between regional organisations and the United Nations, revitalization of the General Assembly and the reform of the Security Council. The President underscored the important role of parliaments in the elaboration and implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, adding that he looked forward to the contributions of the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament on the Agenda.
The PGA further met with Hon. Saber Chowdhury, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). President Chowdhury briefed President Kutesa on the upcoming IPU hearing taking place on 19-20 November 2014. Underlining the key role of parliaments at the forefront of ensuring the well-being of people worldwide, President Kutesa added that he looked forward to the parliamentary hearing, which will provide another opportunity for exchange views on the new development framework.
