Summary

Representatives from non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC, representatives from relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector are invited to register to attend and participate in the multi-stakeholder dialogue. Attendees will discuss the main findings and recommendations contained in the report of the Secretary-General on the review of the implementation of commitments made towards Africa’s development, pursuant to United Nations General Assembly resolutions A/RES/76/297 and A/RES/77/270.

The multi-stakeholder dialogue will be held in person on 21 July 2023 from 10:00 – 13:00 EDT in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, New York. The meeting will be broadcast live on UN Web TV with interpretation in all official languages.

It will consist of an opening segment, a panel discussion, an interactive session, and a closing segment. The panel discussion will be composed of key stakeholders involved in Africa. It will be followed immediately by statements from United Nations Member States and interventions from other relevant stakeholders, including representatives of academia, think tanks, civil society, and youth organizations.

There will be no pre-established list of speakers. Those wishing to take the floor will be invited to do so by pressing the microphone button in the room.

Objectives

  • To foster a dialogue around the progress made in the implementation of commitments made toward Africa’s development in the areas of financing for development and energy access.
  • To identify opportunities and policy implications of the interlocking global crises on the continent's development, and their impact on the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
  • To promote a comprehensive and open exchange on reaffirming the pertinence of the UNMM as a mechanism for tracking and monitoring the implementation of commitments towards Africa’s development and call attention to the need for full and timely implementation of development commitments towards Africa by the UN Member States.
