ACS - AEC

The objectives of the ACS are based on the following: the strengthening of the regional cooperation and integration process, with a view to creating an enhanced economic space in the region; preserving the environmental integrity of the Caribbean Sea which is regarded as the common patrimony of the peoples of the region; and promoting the sustainable development of the Greater Caribbean. Caribbean Natural Resources Institute - Saint LuciaCaribbean Natural Resources Institute - Trinidad Tobago - CANARI

CANARI is an independent technical and research organization, which analyses and promotes the participatory management of natural resources in the islands of the Caribbean. The Institute has developed a thorough knowledge of issues related to participatory management. http://www.canari.org/ 

Caribbean Epidemiology CenterCaribbean Epidemiology Center - CAREC

CAREC is administered on behalf of 21 Member Countries by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization's Regional Office for the Americas. CAREC works in support of Public Health in the Caribbean. It  provides laboratory reference and epidemiology services to 21 Member Countries. Its mission is to improve the health status of Caribbean people by advancing the capabilities of member countries in epidemiology, laboratory technology and related public health disciplines through technical cooperation, service, training, research and a well trained motivated staff. http://www.carec.org/

 

Caribbean Centre for Development Administration - CARICAD

Established by an agreement signed by CARICOM member states in 1980, CARICAD is a regional inter-governmental organization that assists governments in upgrading their managerial capabilities for public policy analysis, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of public sector reform programs. The mission of CARICAD is to place particular emphasis on the incorporation of environmentally-sensitive, sustainable development programs, into all decision-making processes by fostering the involvement of the private sector, non-governmental organizations and the international community. Caribbean CommunityCaribbean Community - CARICOM

The mission of CARICOM is to provide dynamic leadership and service, in partnership with community institutions and groups, toward the attainment of a viable, internationally competitive and sustainable Community, with improved quality of life for all. The objectives of CARICOM are to achieve improved standards of living and work; full employment of labor and other factors of production; accelerated, coordinated and sustained economic development and convergence; expansion of trade and economic relations with third States; enhanced levels of international competitiveness; organization for increased production and productivity; greater measure of economic leverage and effectiveness of Member States in dealing with third States, groups of States and entities of any description; enhanced coordination of Member States' foreign and [foreign] economic policies; and enhanced functional cooperation. http://www.caricom.org

Caribbean Community Climate Change Center - BelizeCaribbean Community Climate Change Center - Belize - CCCCC

CCCCC is an implementing body for regional climate projects. The site was launched on December 9, 2002 and is designed to be the key portal for information, particularly as it relates to the Caribbean. Caribbean Conservation Association - BarbadosCaribbean Conservation Association - Barbados - CCA

The mission of the CCA is to enhance the quality of life for present and future generations of the Caribbean by facilitating the development and implementation of policies, programs and practices, which contribute to the sustainable management of the region's natural and cultural resources. This is achieved through a membership that covers the wider Caribbean amongst non-governmental organisations, within government structures and by individuals interested in voicing civil society's concern for the state of the environment in the Caribbean region. http://www.ccanet.net/

 

Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response AgencyCaribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency - CDERA

CDERA is a regional inter- governmental agency established in September 1991 by an Agreement of the Conference of Heads of Government of the CARICOM to be responsible for disaster management. CDERA's main function is to make an immediate and coordinated response to any disastrous event affecting any participating state, once the state requests such assistance. http://www.cdera.org/

 

Caribbean Environmental Health Institute - Trinidad and TobagoCaribbean Environmental Health Institute - Saint Lucia - CEHI

CEHI's mission is to provide leadership to its member states in order to improve and support policy development decisions that are consistent with the goals and targets of the Caribbean Cooperation in Health (CCH) initiative and in collaboration with national, regional and international organizations. http://www.cehi.org.lc

Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development - Trinidad and TobagoCaribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development - Trinidad and Tobago - CNIRD

The mission of CNIRD is to promote sustainable and environmentally sound development through consultation with and the involvement of communities and other relevant entities in order to improve the quality of life in rural areas and the well being of Caribbean people. The General Assembly of members is the highest decision-making body of CNIRD. At present, CNIRD's membership comprises forty institutions and individuals from the Caribbean. http://www.cnird.org/

 

Caribbean Tourism OrganizationCaribbean Tourism Organization - CTO

CTO is an international development agency that acts as the official body for promoting and developing tourism throughout the Caribbean. Its members include countries and private companies - such as airlines, hotels, cruise operators and travel agencies - who are involved in providing holidays and vacations in the region. Chapters of the CTO exist around the world and promote travel to the Caribbean. CTO’s mission is to encourage sustainable tourism that is sensitive to the economic, social and cultural interests of the Caribbean people, to preserve their natural environment and to provide the highest quality of service to visitors.  http://www.doitcaribbean.com/

 

Coast and beach stability in the Caribbean - COSALC

The goal of this project is to develop in-country capabilities so that small islands of the Caribbean, often economically dependent on coastal tourism, can effectively manage their changing beach resources and plan for coastline change in a framework of integrated coastal management. The initial focus was on small islands in the eastern Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands; recently the scope has widened to include Haiti and the San Andres Archipelago (Colombia).

Eastern Caribbean Central Bank - ECCB

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank was established in October 1983. It is the Monetary Authority for a group of eight small island economies namely - Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, and St Vincent and The Grenadines. The purposes of the Bank are to regulate the availability of money and credit; to promote and maintain monetary stability; to promote credit and exchange conditions and a sound financial structure conducive to the balanced growth and development of the economies of the territories of the participating governments; and to actively promote through means consistent with its other objectives the economic development of the territories of the Participating Governments. http://www.eccb-centralbank.org/

 

Environmental Management Authority - Trinidad and TobagoEnvironmental Management Authority - Trinidad and Tobago - EMA

EMA is a statutory body established by the government of Trinidad & Tobago to address the country's environmental problems. EMA was established in June 1995 under the Environmental Management Act, No. 3 of 1995. EMA is mandated to write and enforce laws and regulations for environmental management; educate the public about the nation's environmental issues through awareness programs; issue Certificates of Environmental Clearance to new development projects that may impact the environment, in some cases an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) may be a requirement of the developer; coordinate environmental functions performed by organizations and persons in Trinidad and Tobago; provide for the designation and protection of environmentally sensitive areas and species; develop and establish environmental standards and criteria; and ensure the effective enforcement of environmental laws. http://www.ema.co.tt/

 

Mesoamerican Barrier Reef Systems Project
The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef Systems Project aims at enhancing the protection of the ecologically unique and vulnerable marine ecosystems comprising the MBRS, by assisting the participating countries in strengthening and coordinating national policies, regulations and institutional arrangements for the conservation and sustainable use of this global public good.

Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, Trade and Industry - BelizeMinistry of Natural Resources, Environment, Trade and Industry - Belize

The Ministry is a key agency in the public administration structure of Belize, and is responsible for the management of the country's most vital natural resources. This is achieved through activities in areas such as protected areas, wildlife, land distribution, mineral and non-mineral resources, etc.. Through the departments and their interdepartmental committees, the Ministry provides services to both private and public sectors and articulates its activities with NGOs and local communities. National Environmental Planning Agency - JamaicaNational Environmental Planning Agency - Jamaica - NEPA

NEPA is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Land and the Environment that became operational on April 1, 2001. NEPA represents a merger between the Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA), the Town Planning Department (TPD) and the Land Development and Utilization Commission (LDUC). The aim of the merger is to integrate environmental, planning and sustainable development policies and programmes and to improve customer service.NEPA'S mission is to promote sustainable development by ensuring protection of the environment and orderly development in Jamaica through highly motivated staff performing at the highest standard. http://www.nrca.org/

 

Organization of Eastern Caribbean StatesOrganization of Eastern Caribbean States - OECS

Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic StudiesSir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies - SALISES - UWI

SALISES was established in August 1999 out of a merger of the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) and the Consortium Graduate School of Social Sciences (CGSSS). The Institute has branches on the three campuses of the University, Mona, Cave Hill and St. Augustine. The Institute’s mandate is to conduct training and research of a regional, multidisciplinary and policy-oriented nature to serve the needs of the small developing countries like the Caribbean. Small Island Developing States Network (SIDSnet) is a direct follow-up to the 1994 Barbados Programme of Action (BPoA). SIDSnet connects 43 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific, Caribbean, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and African island nations. The project was launched in 1998 through UNDP's Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). The Water Resources Management and Small Island Developing States Branch of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) currently administers the project.

Sustainable Development Economic Unit - University of the West Indies - Trinidad and TobagoSustainable Development Economic Unit University of the West Indies - Trinidad and Tobago - SEDU - UWI

The Mission of SEDU is to conduct empirical and theoretical research and facilitate interdisciplinary work on the most promising policies for sustainable economic development in small and island developing states. The approach of the unit is policy oriented, its focus is on the wider Caribbean region, and its aim is to contribute to the understanding of sustainable development through rigorous local and regional research and the dissemination of such research results

Soufriere Marine Management Authority - Saint LuciaSoufriere Marine Management Authority - Saint Lucia - SMMA

Mostly since last decade, the marine and coastal areas of the Soufriere Marine have been under increasing pressure from competing human activities. In response to these threats, local fishermen, hoteliers, divers, yacht operators, government agencies, and community groups came together and negotiated an agreement that resulted in the formation of the Soufriere Marine Management Area in 1994. http://www.smma.org.lc
