About the event

In its resolution 2015/33, the UN Economic and Social Council strengthened, and extended the International
Arrangement on Forests (IAF) to 2030. The Council further requested the UN Forum on Forests to undertake a midterm, and final review of the effectiveness of the IAF in achieving its objectives in 2024, and 2030. In accordance with the programme of work of the Forum, the seventeenth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF17) to be held in May 2022, will consider and decide on the preparations for the IAF midterm review in 2024.
In preparation for the UNFF17 discussions on this matter, the UNFF Secretariat (UNFFS) is organizing a virtual
Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on 17 and 18 November 2021. In July 2021 a concise questionnaire on the IAF midterm review was sent to Members of the Forum and UNFF partners for their input. The responses to this questionnaire provided the basis for the background paper which also includes information on relevant legislative mandates, the history of the IAF, its components and brief outline of activities, and key developments since 2015.
