Multi-stakeholder Consultations on Financing for Development

Building Inclusive Financial Sectors for Development

The United Nations Capital Development Fund and the Financing for Development Office of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs are leading a consultative process to address constraints to the expansion of access to financial services in developing and transition economies. They are supported by a multi-agency coordination group composed of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, International Labour Organization, and International Fund for Agricultural Development, as well as by other financial sector experts. This innovative consultative process, resulting from both the Monterrey Consensus and the UN International Year of Microcredit 2005, has lead to the dissemination of a “Blue Book on Building Inclusive Financial Sectors” in May 2006. It provides a unique opportunity to explore ways to address constraints to the expansion of access to financial services in developing and transition economies. General background on the Blue Book consultations and information on each of the multi-stakeholder consultations organized between October 2004 and May 2006 can be accessed through the links below.
