Description
Rapid urbanization in the Asia-Pacific region is expanding peri-urban areas, but limited infrastructure and public transport services leave many marginalized populations with inadequate and unequal access. About 56% of people lack convenient public transport, exacerbating social exclusion and increasing travel costs for vulnerable groups, including women, seniors, and low-income communities.
To address this, the project will support target countries in developing resilient and inclusive mobility policies for peri-urban areas. It will leverage digital platforms to improve public transport services, enhance capacity of policymakers to regulate new technologies, and promote demand-responsive, shared mobility solutions. By introducing digital-enabled transport options in Kyrgyzstan, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Nepal, and Tonga, the project aims to improve access to essential services and create new employment opportunities, advancing SDGs 5, 9, and 11.
