The Tenth Steering Committee Meeting

Meeting of the Peace and Development Trust Fund Held in Beijing

On 19 May, the Steering Committee of the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund held its annual meeting in Beijing.

The meeting was hosted by the Government of China as the Trust Fund approaches its tenth anniversary—a milestone in the fund’s contributions to UN efforts to help advance peace and security and sustainable development around the world.

The Steering Committee endorsed 19 new project proposals totaling around USD 18.6 million. The projects cover:

  • peacekeeping
  • peacebuilding
  • peace and security
  • counterterrorism
  • support for the Pact for the Future
  • strategic foresight in Pacific Small Island Developing States
  • digital and emerging technologies governance in Least Developed Countries
  • beyond-gross domestic product metrics
  • infrastructure assets management
  • artificial intelligence for food security
  • digital transport infrastructure

The Steering Committee also agreed on a roster of additional proposals should unspent balances from previous projects become available.

Looking ahead to the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund’s tenth anniversary, the Steering Committee reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing projects that cut across peace and development mandates and deliver broad, lasting benefits to the widest possible range of individuals and communities.

The Steering Committee further underscored the value of strengthening collaboration with United Nations Resident Coordinators, regional and subregional organizations, and international financial institutions. Such partnerships are critical to the design and implementation of sustainable initiatives that endure beyond the project timeframe.

Steering Committee members visited projects to see the Trust Fund’s impact firsthand. Highlights included presentations on global health initiatives—such as an innovative cardiac procedure developed at Fuwai Hospital—as well as UN security training held in Beijing.

The delegation also met with the Chinese authorities and toured the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre located in Deqing, Zhejiang Province.
