“United Nations Security Explained!,” a video produced by the IASMN Strategic Communications Working Group along with the creative agency Sixeleven and its partner for video projects, 611Nuts, won a bronze medal in the Humanitarian Action and Service category of the 2nd annual Anthem Awards.
The Anthem Awards were developed to recognize mission-driven work and honor the organizations, brands, and people that are creating long-lasting impact around the globe. “By amplifying the voices that spark global change, we’re defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their own communities.” For the 2nd annual Anthem Awards, the Anthem Academy received nearly 2,000 submissions from 43 countries.
“United Nations Security Explained” is a short, 2-minute video that tells the story of UNSMS’s planning, mandates, activities, and programs in a fresh and innovative way. The video was completed in June 2022 and took 6 months to develop from conception, scripting, to production. Rotoscoping was used to make the video, an animation technique that allows animators to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action. Laura Lacanale, Communications Officer, at World Food Programme (WFP) and Alister Wood, Senior Security Operations Officer, at International Organization for Migration (IOM) co-chaired the working group that created and produced the video, with special thanks to Federica Bimbati, Davide Fantino, Massimo Liuzzi,at 611Nuts, Paolo Menegotto, Director of 611Nuts, and the entire team of professionals who contributed to the video. The video has been shared throughout the whole UNSMS system and has over 10,000 views across the UN system.
The award is a big win for the IASMN Strategic Communication Working Group. Alister Wood said, “We look forward to this year, more partnerships, new communications products, and new approaches of telling our story.” The video outlines UNDSS’s collaboration with the UNSMS and the role we play in enabling US operations. The UNSMS is a keystone of the UN system and it is essential for our colleagues to know what services we provide and the role we play in the UN. Other UN winners of the Anthem Awards included UNICEG and WFP for Innovation for Non-Profit and UNHCR for Fundraising Strategy.
