Roheena is Executive Director for Global Publishing Development at PLOS, a not-for-profit organization on a mission to catalyze measurable meaningful change in Open Science publishing, policy and practice. Roheena is responsible for expanding PLOS’s global profile and engagement via partnerships, networks and initiatives to involve global research communities and stakeholders in developing an equitable open research future. One example of this is PLOS and TCC Africa’s regional programme of Open Science policy activities across the African continent, as featured in UNESCO’s first Open Science Outlook.
Roheena has over 25 years’ experience from across the STM publishing industry, including strategic leadership of global teams and diverse portfolios at both commercial and society publishers. Roheena was previously Head of Open Access Journals at the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), with responsibility for the Open Access programme and policy for the organization. Roheena serves on the Declaration of Research Assessment (DORA) Executive Board, is co-Chair of the Beyond Article Based Charges working group (convened by cOAlition S, JISC and PLOS) and represents OASPA (the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association) on the UKRI OA stakeholder forum. She holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford.
