Report of the Secretary-General: Innovative Voluntary Financing Options for Artificial Intelligence Capacity-Building

Published in July 2025, this report (A/79/966) sets out innovative voluntary financing options for artificial intelligence capacity-building for consideration by the General Assembly at its seventy-ninth session. It provides an overview of the financing needs and supply for AI capacity-building, alongside financing options and measures that address emerging gaps in that regard and that are complementary to relevant UN funding mechanisms, taking into account the recommendations of the High-level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence on a Global Fund on AI.

The UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies

On 1 January 2025, the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology transitioned to a new UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET). This historic development flows from a decision by the UN General Assembly on 24 December 2024, following the adoption of the Global Digital Compact at the Summit of the Future in September 2024.
