The Population Division and the Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, organized a regional workshop for selected countries of Northern and Western Africa on the collection and use of international migration data for development. The 49th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) will be devoted to the theme "Strengthening the demographic evidence base for the post-2015 development agenda". The United Nations Population Division has convened an expert group meeting in October 2015 to inform the UN Secretary-General report to be presented at this CPD session in April 2016.

Workshop on the production of population estimates and demographic indicators

Overview

The Population Division in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will organize a regional workshop for the anglophone countries in sub-Saharan Africa to improve national capacity in the production and use of population estimates and demographic indicators for policy making for sustainable development. The workshop will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 5 to 9 October 2015. The project is funded by the United Nations Development Account.

“The post-2015 era: Implications for the global research agenda on population and development” expert group meeting will identify and discuss research priorities on population and development that merit global attention in the next 15 years.
