This crisis calls for an urgent and comprehensive response from the international community based on respect for international refugee and human rights law, and on principles of solidarity and responsibility sharing.

The 49th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) will be devoted to the theme "Strengthening the demographic evidence base for the post-2015 development agenda". The United Nations Population Division has convened an expert group meeting in October 2015 to inform the UN Secretary-General report to be presented at this CPD session in April 2016. |
The Population Division in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will organize a regional workshop for the anglophone countries in sub-Saharan Africa to improve national capacity in the production and use of population estimates and demographic indicators for policy making for sustainable development. The workshop will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 5 to 9 October 2015. The project is funded by the United Nations Development Account.
“The post-2015 era: Implications for the global research agenda on population and development” expert group meeting will identify and discuss research priorities on population and development that merit global attention in the next 15 years. The meeting will bring together researchers and academics, experts from Governments and international organizations, as well as representatives from donors and civil society.
