Coherent policy responses to demographic change to promote sustainable development

Solutions Session
Second World Summit for Social Development
Doha, Qatar

Virtual event

6 November, 13.15 - 14.30 AST (virtual event)

Overview

This Solutions Session is organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), in collaboration with UN system entities, to promote a shared understanding of the complex interplay between demographic change and sustainable development. The session draws on ongoing efforts within the UN system to develop innovative, coherent, scalable, and rights-based policy responses and solutions to harness the benefits and address the challenges of demographic change, while also promoting a balanced, evidence-based discourse on demographic issues in current public and political debates.

On the margins of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar in November 2025, the session will be an important opportunity to underscore the links between demographic change and efforts to reduce poverty and inequalities, promote health and education, and protect the environment. It will provide an opportunity for Member States, UN system entities, civil society and other partners to engage in a practical and forward-looking dialogue on policy responses for the effective integration of demographic trends within processes intended to advance sustainable development by 2030 and beyond. Those wishing to participate are kindly invited to register through the following link: unf.pa/policyresponses.
