Migration
On 4 December 2000, the General Assembly, taking into account the large and increasing number of migrants in the world, proclaimed 18 December International Migrants Day (A/RES/55/93).
Overview
Despite the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, international remittance volumes to lowand middle- income countries held firm throughout 2020, recording only a modest 1.6 per cent decline to US$549 billion, in the face of one of the deepest recorded global recessions, and increased again in 2021 to US$589 billion, registering a 7.3 per cent increase.
In 1999, General Assembly resolution 54/120 endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers of Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day. Such a day provides an opportunity to celebrate young peoples’ views and initiatives on a global scale.
