Climate Security Risks in South Sudan: An Information Brief
- 02 October 2025
This information brief, jointly developed by UNDP, UNMISS, and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, outlines the urgent need to address the complex interplay between climate change and security in South Sudan. As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations, South Sudan faces escalating risks to peace and stability due to climate-induced livelihood disruptions, migration, and resource-based conflicts. The brief highlights strategic interventions to integrate climate and conflict sensitivity into peacebuilding, strengthen early warning systems, and support national policy development. It calls for coordinated, data-driven approaches to enhance resilience, promote inclusive development, and consolidate peace under the framework of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
