The first progress report of the Climate Security Mechanism (CSM) reflects on its early achievements as a joint initiative by the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the UN Development Programme and the UN Environment Programme with the support of Sweden, Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom.

The CSM was established in 2018 to strengthen the capacity of the UN system to address climate-related security risks. The report provides an overview of the CSM’s progress in working towards cross-cutting solutions that address the interlinkages between climate change, peace and security, and leverage opportunities for synergies between peacebuilding and climate action.
