Data Analytics for Climate, Peace and Security

Data Analytics for Climate, Peace and Security

The UN System Staff College (UNSSC) launched a Data Analytics for Climate, Peace and Security module online on Tuesday 25 March 2025 in collaboration with the Climate Security Mechanism (CSM) and the quantitative data use sub-group of colleagues from the UN Community of Practice on Climate, Peace and Security (CPS).

The new module offers insights on the topic of integrated data analytics for CPS action. It zooms in on the challenges faced in cross-sectoral data integration, how integrated data assessments can aid programming, and provides a short collection of integrated CPS data tools. It is informed by, and supports efforts from the sub-group on quantitative CPS data use which was established in follow-up to a Community of Practice session held in March 2024, through which experts shared experience from the use of data tools for situational awareness and analytical purposes. With support from the CSM, the informal sub-group (30+ colleagues across 10 UN entities) held several meeting over the past year and drew up guidance to practitioners on navigating the various quantitative data platforms, through a mapping aimed at helping CPS analysts, Resident Coordinator Offices and local policy entrepreneurs to understand how quantitative data applications can inform integrated CPS work.
