Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with Mr. Todd Stern, United States Special Envoy for Climate Change

Ban Ki-Moon, Former Secretary-General

The Secretary-General met today with Mr. Todd Stern, United States Special Envoy for Climate Change, on the margins of the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the contributions the United States has made since the Climate Summit in September: President Barack Obama’s joint announcement with Chinese President Xi Jinping and its $3 billion pledge to the Green Climate Fund.

He welcomed the determination shown by the US to follow through on the commitments it made in Copenhagen in 2009, which he said is paving the way toward a meaningful, universal agreement.
