Saddened by Passing of Republic of Korea’s Former President, Secretary-General Praises Kim Young-sam for Country’s ‘Peaceful Transition to Democracy’

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General has learned with sadness of the passing of Kim Young-sam, former President of the Republic of Korea, on 22 November.  He expresses his deepest condolences to the people of the Republic of Korea, especially to Kim Young-sam’s family and loved ones.

The Secretary-General pays tribute to President Kim’s major contribution to the Republic of Korea’s peaceful transition to democracy.
