SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS TERRORIST BOMBINGS IN NEW DELHI

The following statement was issued on 29 October by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is appalled by and condemns the series of terrorist bombings which have resulted in many deaths in the Indian capital, New Delhi.  He sends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the Indian Government and people.

The Secretary-General is particularly shocked that this latest terrorist outrage has occurred on the eve of the major Hindu festival of Diwali.

He urges the Indian Government to bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice as soon as possible.
