Message from AFICS/NY President

Tuesday, 17 March 2020 - 12:00pm

To all members of the AFICS/NY community,

As President of AFICS/NY, I would like to express our deep understanding and concern for the wellbeing of all our members and their families during the world-wide COVID-19 new corona virus emergency. I would also urge that you take all the recommended steps and measures aimed at reducing the spread of the virus, while coping as best as we can with the difficulties they cause all of us.

Following the clear directive issued by the UN Secretary-General on 13 March (and posted on our website) and the actions of the governmental authorities in the greater New York area, the AFICS/NY Office is now functioning remotely and thus can continue to be reached by e-mail anytime at afics@un.org and also by phone, at +1(212) 963-2943, Tuesday - Friday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (No walk in office.) In this manner, the leadership of the Association will remain in touch with all of you and offer whatever information and assistance it can.

For any assistance on insurance matters while their offices are closed, write to ashi@un.org or call their dedicated phone +(917) 367-9727, and check their website: www.un.org/insurance

For any assitance on pension matters, while their offices are closed, email to UNJSPF using UNJSPF's contact webform on their website here, or call +1(212) 963-6931 or +1(833) 668-6931 (US toll free), and check their website:  www.unjspf.org

As retirees we are in the group that must be the most diligent to do everything we can to help limit the spread of COVID-19, both individually and working with our families and communities. As dedicated members of the UN community during our working lives,  that is something we are accustomed to be doing.

With best wishes to all of you,

John D.
