Description/outline
The project supported the recruitment of project staff, the review and update of the Crisis Management Training (CMT) and Hostage Incident Management (HIM) curricula; the identification of participants for all sessions, and the launch of the CMT United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) Community of Practice to support post-training engagement and localized post-training briefings. The first CMT course was conducted in May 2025 in Beijing for the Asia-Pacific region. Following an internal review, the HIM training was transitioned from an in-person to a virtual format.

Synopsis

Objectives

The project aims to enhance the operational capacity and service delivery of field security personnel, and to support security decision-makers during crises and hostage situations.

Components

The project’s support includes updating and delivering training programmes on crisis management and hostage incident management to Designated Officials (DOs), DOs a.i, UNSMS security professionals, and personnel from Saving Lives Together (SLT) implementing partner INGOs.

Main achievements

The project supported the recruitment of project staff, the review and update of the Crisis Management Training (CMT) and Hostage Incident Management (HIM) curricula with best practices, real-world crisis scenarios, and regional security dynamics; the identification of participants for all sessions, and the launch of the CMT United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) Community of Practice to support post-training engagement and localized post-training briefings.

The flagship CMT course was held in May 2025 in Beijing for the Asia-Pacific region and brought together 22 crisis managers and coordinators.

Following an internal review, the HIM training was transitioned from in-person to virtual delivery.

Impact

The project enhances UN collaboration and benefits all partner organizations operating under the Saving Lives Together framework.
