Live to Tell

This year's edition of International Day for Disaster Reduction on 13 October marks the start of the "Sendai Seven Campaign ‐ 7 Targets, 7 Years”. It's an advocacy initiative to encourage implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, with the goal of saving lives, reducing disaster losses and improving management of disaster risk.

The Sendai Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, adopted in March 2015, was the first of four agreements approved by the international community in 2015 with the overall aim of making development more sustainable in the face of a raft of challenges faced by the world.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction has four priorities:

Priority 1: Understanding Disaster Risk

Priority 2: Strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk

Priority 3: Investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience

Priority 4: “Build Back Better”
