Today, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) has issued new stamps and souvenir sheets on the theme of body, mind, and soul.

When body, mind, and soul are in harmony, one experiences good health, inner peace, and happiness.

The stamps represent the Chinese practices of Taijiquan, calligraphy, and the guqin instrument and its music.

All three have been recognized as elements of intangible cultural heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Taijiquan, featured on the 66¢ stamp and $1.50 souvenir sheet, is a traditional physical practice characterized by relaxed, circular movements that work in concert with breath regulation and the cultivation of a righteous and neutral mind.

Chinese calligraphy, featured on the CHF 1,10 stamp and CHF 2,30 souvenir sheet which is the art of drawing Chinese characters, combines purely visual art and interpretation of the literary meaning.

The guqin instrument and its music are featured on the €1,00 and € 1,90 souvenir sheet. The Chinese zither, called guqin, has existed for over 3,000 years and represents China’s foremost solo musical instrument tradition.

Taijiquan, Chinese calligraphy, and guqin practice were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020, 2009, and 2008 respectively.

The stamps and souvenir sheets were illustrated by Yun Zhang (China) and designed by Rorie Katz (United Nations).

The stamps are available online at unstamps.org  and in person from shops at the UN headquarters in New York, Geneva, and Vienna where the stamps can be used for mailing.
