Description
Many Asian and Pacific countries are highly vulnerable to extreme climate events under 1.5°C and 2°C warming scenarios, severely impacting agriculture, tourism, and natural resources. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are especially at risk, facing the highest relative losses to GDP. Despite growing demands, social protection systems often lack the capacity and awareness to address climate-related risks effectively, especially amid ongoing fiscal and capacity challenges.

To address this, the project will strengthen the capacity of five countries—Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—to develop social protection systems that integrate climate change considerations. It adopts a three-pronged approach: preparing national roadmaps, utilizing diagnostic tools and data, and fostering regional cooperation to build climate-resilient social protection measures. The initiative aims to shift crisis response systems toward proactive frameworks that support climate adaptation, protect vulnerable groups, and advance SDGs 1, 8, 10, and 13.
