The Ninth Steering Committee Meeting
UN-China extend the Peace and Development Trust Fund through 2030
On 21 November 2024, the Steering Committee of the United Nations Peace and Development (UNPDF) gathered at the United Nations Secretariat Headquarters for its ninth annual meeting. During the meeting, the Committee reviewed and endorsed project proposals for 2025 and discussed the Trust Fund’s operations and future priorities.
The Steering Committee endorsed 22 projects with a cumulative budget of around $20 million. The Committee also identified other potential projects should funding become available from unspent project balances.
Chef de Cabinet, Mr. Courtney Rattray, along with the Permanent Representative of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Fu Cong, also agreed to extend the Trust Fund through 2030. China will continue to its annual contribution of $20 million to support the implementation of projects related to peace and development.
As the Trust Fund approaches its tenth anniversary in 2026, the Committee encouraged the financing of projects that would benefit the largest number of individuals on the ground. In addition, the Committee underscored the importance of working with regional or sub-regional partners.
Members of the Steering Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress of current projects and the expansion of the Trust Fund’s partners and beneficiaries, all of which contribute to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
