UN Technology Bank Governing Council to meet in Istanbul

Istanbul – The Governing Council of the UN Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries will meet in Istanbul, Türkiye from 30-31 January when members will review the organization’s new Strategic Plan.

The 13-member Council is appointed by the UN Secretary-General and includes six Permanent Representatives of Member States, representing the interests of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The Council meets twice annually to evaluate the organization's work and approve its budget.

            UN Technology Bank Managing Director Deodat Maharaj said:            

“Accountability and transparency are integral to our founding principles, shaping the delivery of the UN Technology Bank’s work and its impact. As the organization enters its next phase of growth, I deeply appreciate the Governing Council’s guidance in helping us to deliver our mandate to strengthen the science, technology, and innovation capacities of the world’s poorest countries.
“This year is a pivotal moment for development, as emerging technologies push the frontiers of knowledge and capabilities. We are committed to ensuring that the poorest and most vulnerable countries benefit from the rapid technological progress taking place.”

The UN Technology Bank’s Strategic Plan 2025-2027 was designed in close consultation with the Council and client countries. It aims to consolidate past achievements and sharpen the organization’s delivery in sectors that will most benefit LCDs.
